Liwa Zainebiyoun is a Shia militant group primarily composed of Pakistani fighters, operating in Syria under the command of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Formed to protect Shia holy sites and support the Assad regime, the group has been active in major conflict zones like Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor.
Its recruitment is largely based in Pakistan, particularly among the Shia Hazara community. Liwa Zainebiyoun has gained attention for its strategic role in regional geopolitics and Iran’s proxy warfare strategy.
The Zinebon Brigade which recruited Shia youth from Pakistan and Afghanistan and then used them for proxy wars, especially in Iraq and Syria, as well as for targeted killings in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Pakistan and the United States, as well as the European Union, have designated the Zineboun Brigade as a terrorist organization.
