Why Was the European Union Created
The European Union was created mainly because of the destruction caused by World War II (1939–1945). After the war, European leaders wanted to prevent another major war and build a peaceful and prosperous Europe.
The main goals of the EU are:
- Maintain peace in Europe.
- Increase trade and economic growth.
- Protect democracy and human rights.
- Improve the lives of European citizens.
- Strengthen cooperation between European countries.
